Kitchen reno has started... YAY!!

The outside of the house is full of broken pieces of wood, old kitchen cabinets, a useless cooker hood, an old 4 burner hob, and lots and lots and LOTS of dust and sawdust! All part of the process I suppose :-p.

The guys have made good progress already. They were at the house late morning, with all their required paraphernalia, and this is what they were able to do today:

- Re-positioned the kitchen fridge to BLOCK the entrance to the kitchen
- Disconnected the water dispenser (which is piped from the kitchen sink) and moved it into the dining room for safe keeping
- Disconnected and removed the built-in oven and moved it into the dining room for safe keeping
- Moved the small kopi tiam table and chairs from the kitchen to the entrance hall way.
- Closed off the entrance to the kitchen (behind the re-positioned fridge) with a large sheet of plywood
- Stripped ALL the cabinets off the walls in the dry kitchen and moved most of them to the side of the house
- Stripped HALF the cabinets off the walls off the wet kitchen, and moved them to the side of the house

Not too bad, for half a days work (they started around 11am, had a break for lunch, and left around 5pm).

And this is what the kitchen looks like now (and you can compare to the pictures from yesterdays post to see the differences!):

1) The dry kitchen, where the cooker and microwave were!

2) The dry kitchen, where the sink was!

3) The dry kitchen, where the fridge was, with the tiny space I used to use for my baking prep!

4) The wet kitchen, this part has not yet been stripped. It will take longer as the top and bottom are cement and tiles! Harder to demolish.

5) The wet kitchen, where the washing machine and fridge were. The washing machine is still there, but will be moved to a temporary location at the side of the house tomorrow. And one of the workers asked if he could have the little fridge, as we are not keeping it, and of course we said yes!

6) These are the blue cabinets taken from the wet kitchen washing machine/fridge area. We will re-use these in the new 'laundry' area. The tall cabinet will be useful for storing buckets, mops, etc, while the base cabinet and the wall unit will be useful for storing all the laundry and cleaning stuff. These cabinets will be eventually positioned next to the washing machine at the side of the house.

7) And these are the cabinets from inside the dry kitchen. One of our friends has asked if they can have the cabinets (!) and we've said Yes. They have, of course, confirmed that they will pay for having it moved to their place and re-constructed there!

And that's it for today... more to come :-). The suspense is building ........

Till next time, have a good day, every day!
